Vasilika is a small town located about 25 km southeast of Thessaloniki, in the fertile valley of the Anthemountas river, which runs through it.

Traces of human presence can be detected as early as the Middle Neolithic period, while the area continued to be inhabited uninterruptedly in the centuries that followed; according to some researchers, the toponym Vasilika Amyntou, mentioned by the historian Procopius in the 6th century AD, is identified with the present settlement.

Nevertheless, archaeological findings, mainly burials, show that Vasilika has been in roughly the same location since the 5th century AD. Despite subjugation by foreign conquerors, such as the Romans and the Turks, the inhabitants of Vasilika preserved their identity, an essential element of which is, of course, the language.

Thus, the foreign words that entered the vocabulary on the one hand constituted a minority percentage and on the other hand, most were assimilated by adapting to the inflectional system of Greek.
