The "Gerontikon" or otherwise known as "Paterikon" or "Sayings of the Fathers" became the subject of deep study very early on; initially by groups of monks who sought to follow in the footsteps of previous holy Elders, and later the interest expanded to the entire Church. They were loved and read as few books; and they continue to be read until today, despite more than 15 centuries having passed.
