Description

Description

In his new book, which has already been successfully integrated into universities, leading author Douglas E. Comer methodically and thoroughly introduces readers to cloud computing. The book Cloud Computing: The Future of Computing focuses on the concepts and principles that govern cloud computing, rather than on the commercial products of cloud service providers, and provides a complete picture of the benefits and evolution of cloud computing, infrastructure, virtualization, automation, and orchestration, as well as the design of cloud-native software.

The book thoroughly examines both the physical and virtual facilities of data centers, including computational systems (e.g., servers, hypervisors, virtual machines, and containers), networks (e.g., leaf-core network architecture, VLANs, and VXLANs), and storage mechanisms (e.g., SAN, NAS, and object storage).

The chapters regarding automation and orchestration cover the conceptual organization of systems that handle the automatic provisioning and scaling of software. In the chapters related to cloud-native software, topics such as concurrency, microservices, the MapReduce model, controller-based software design, and serverless computing are discussed.

While the book focuses on concepts and principles, it also employs widely used technologies in its examples, such as Docker containers and the Kubernetes system. The final chapters of the book explain issues related to cloud security, as well as the use of models that facilitate the handling of the particularities involved in cloud software design.

Designed as a manual for students and professionals, the book is aimed at software technology students and software engineering professionals who want to understand cloud technology, as well as corporate IT department managers who want to transition their companies' computing services to the cloud.
