An advanced autofocus system combines 121 phase-detection AF points and 121 contrast-detection AF points for fast and accurate focusing performance. The 121 phase-detection points are cross-type for improved accuracy in mixed lighting conditions, providing enhanced subject tracking capabilities. Different autofocus modes are available to suit various shooting situations, including the 25-point Group Target mode for moving subjects such as birds and wildlife. Face Detection and Eye Detection AF have also been upgraded, and the camera features a newly designed AF Starry Sky mode as well as individual AF area settings for vertical and horizontal positions.

In the body, sensor-shift image stabilization helps minimize camera shake by up to 6.5 stops with any lens in use and compensates for camera movements that are particularly noticeable when working with telephoto lenses, macro photography, and long exposures. Additionally, this unique image stabilization system operates on five axes to counteract vertical tilt, horizontal tilt, horizontal shift, vertical shift, and camera shake movement. This range of motion detection benefits traditional still photography, as well as video recording and working with moving subjects more effectively. Furthermore, when combined with select lenses equipped with optical image stabilization, shake correction of up to 7.5 stops is possible.

The sensor and processor also support recording DCI (4096 x 2160) and UHD (3840 x 2160) 4K videos. When working in DCI, a true 24p frame rate is used, while UHD 4K is available at frame rates up to 30p. Audio recording is possible using the built-in stereo microphone, and an external microphone port is available for improved audio quality. Additionally, a Time-lapse Movie mode is available for recording up to UHD 4K resolution.

• Simulating the effects of a neutral density filter, the Live ND 16 mode results in blurred motion of the subject by combining exposures into a single image to produce a photo taken at lower shutter speeds. This is especially suitable for photographing moving water and clouds.

• The stacking focus mode captures multiple successive frames and then combines the exposures into a single image that displays extended depth of field.

• The high-resolution capture mode offers the performance equivalent to a 50MP image.

• The Live Composite mode gradually creates an exposure over time without overexposing key elements within the frame, making it ideal for long exposures, night shots, and light painting applications.
