The third volume of the series Archaeology examines the Peloponnese, the territory of significant city-states, the birthplace of mythical heroes, the seat of revered sacred sites of nationwide significance, a cradle of ancient worship and the most important athletic competitions of the ancient world.

The 67 authors of the volume, directors of the excavations in the Peloponnese and experienced researchers in the field and ancient sources, highlight the most important archaeological findings from each area and encapsulate the conclusions of recent research, covering the journey from the emergence of humans and the Stone Age to the twilight of the Roman Empire.

The natural landscape, mythology, archaeological and historical topography shape an original reading framework of the departments of the Peloponnese, with texts, maps, and rare illustrations. Corinthia, Argolis, Arcadia, Achaea, Elis, Messenia, and Laconia are presented in a scientific, contemporary, and illustrative manner, in a collective work of 625 pages and 1215 images, which substantially contributes to archaeological literature.
