The Hoya Mist 0.5 filter is a diffusion filter for camera lenses that diffuses light sources and creates a soft glow around highlights. It reduces overall contrast, especially in the shadows, and gives photos and videos a cinematic look. The diffusion increases the halation around highlights and specular light sources while softening the appearance of wrinkles and skin blemishes.
Its effect is similar to that of a grade 1/8 fog filter. It is made of optical glass, with fine black nano powder between two layers of glass, and features a slim aluminum frame for use with wide-angle lenses without vignetting.
