What Is the Book About

The Path of Solitude explores the ideas hidden behind it, as well as his philosophy of life, in a few short aphoristic sentences. The Miyamoto Musashi Budokan training center, located in Ohara-cho (Mimasaka), in Okayama Prefecture, Japan, was built to honor his name and legend. A Few Words About the Author

Miyamoto Musashi (....1584 - June 13, 1645), also known as Shinmen Takezō Miyamoto Bennosuke or, by his Buddhist name, Niten Dōraku, was a Japanese swordsman, philosopher, writer, and strategist. 

Musashi became known through stories of his unique swordsmanship and his undefeated record in his 61 duels (the next highest is 33 by Itō Ittōsai). He is considered a Kensei, a legendary-level swordsman (literally, saint of the sword) of Japan. 

He was the founder of the Niten Ichi-ryū, or Nito Ichi-ryū, swordsmanship style, and in his later years he wrote The Book of Five Rings (Go Rin No Sho) and Dokkōdō (The Path of Aloneness). Both documents were given to Terao Magonojō, the most important of Musashi's students, seven days before his death.
