The aim of this book is to serve as a truly useful tool for all Engineers who are involved or wish to get involved in the Design and Development of Mechanical Products. This book is divided into three general sections.
The first section starts with the most important step, which is recording the customer's needs and "translating" them into Technical Specifications. It continues with the creation of new ideas as well as the method of selecting the best idea. It then presents the main methodologies of Design For Assembly (DFA) and Design For Manufacturability (DFM), in order to ensure the lowest possible cost of manufacturing and assembly. Finally, the first section concludes with the presentation of the two most common failure prevention methodologies, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA). Both of these methods are now considered an integral part of the design and development process of mechanical products. The FMEA has also become a requirement of ISO 9001:2015.
The second section presents the basic principles of parametric design which allow us to be much more productive. These techniques are the result of many years of experience and can be applied by everyone regardless of which CAD system we are using.
Finally, the third section focuses on learning the parametric software Autodesk Inventor.
