Description

Yes, on their own and in this magnificent struggle, the Greeks of Cyprus fought the fight for all, relying on their own strengths, against a fully armed English army, and they succeeded and won the admiration of the whole world. The power that sustained and supported them in all their trials was their deep faith in God, the mental strength for eternal Freedom, and their love for their much-suffering homeland, high ideas that found expression through the self-sacrifice of these heroes, which are evident in the pre-death letters to their loved ones, which we study with such emotion and uplifted soul.

Where there is no inner freedom of the individual, creations, that is, visions of life, cannot exist as a dynamic and ready-for-action reality. We speak of the few who ignite the hearts of their enslaved brothers and inspire them to the lofty paths of Virtue and Freedom. They are on the front lines, guarding their creation, devoted to their liberal national dreams. They see life as a spiritual demand, as a command of the soul, as a higher exercise of faith and action. And this practical behavior happens to the highest degree when life itself is severely oppressed, deprived of freedom by tyrants, enemies, and abominable conquerors. It is they whose collective conscience functions fully. Their personal lives are absorbed, assimilated, identified with the life of the whole, and practical ethics and inner moral duty in the corresponding circumstances take on the character of national duty. Everything for the highest Good, the Freedom of their suffering Homeland.
