Hoya announced a new filter specifically designed for astrophotography, allowing photographers to capture the night sky even in areas where light pollution may limit its visibility.
The Starscape filter is designed to reduce the radiation produced by mercury and sodium lamps commonly found in cities. According to Hoya, the filter cuts the green (wavelength range: 500–560 nm) and yellow (wavelength range: 560–590 nm) hues that may result from city lights. However, it is unclear how well it can handle light pollution from LED lamps.
