The great tragic poets - Aeschylus, Euripides, and Sophocles - are now in the Underworld. The god of theater, Dionysus, is disappointed and angry with the new tragic poets because they do not write quality theater. The audience probably believes the same. So Dionysus decides to go to the Underworld, accompanied by his servant Xanthias, and bring Euripides back to Athens. However, they must first consult Hercules, who has already been to and returned from the Underworld. On their journey, they encounter Charon, the Chorus of Frogs, and Aeacus. And when they reach their destination, they discover that a great quarrel has broken out between Aeschylus and Euripides about who is the best. The only solution is to have a dramatic contest between them, with Dionysus as the judge! And whoever wins will return with them to the Upper World.
