Description

Description

The Makita chainsaw operates on a battery, does not produce exhaust fumes, and allows you to move freely as it does not depend on cords and sockets. The working time depends on the battery and how charged it is. With a weight of 1.6 kg and a bar length of 10 cm, it is ideal for tree pruning and wood carving.

Brushless Motor

Less wear, greater performance

The advantage that brushless motors have over brushed ones is that they do not have friction since there are no carbon brushes. Without carbon brushes, the motors are more efficient and have a longer lifespan as there is no wear and tear (the carbon brushes in brushed motors wear out with use). They produce less noise, maintain their torque at all speeds, do not overheat, and require no maintenance.

Advantages

  • Lightweight and easy-to-use battery-powered chainsaw with a 100mm bar and high-performance BL motor, ideal for tree pruning
  • Automatic chain lubrication for continuous and safe cutting
  • Automatic chain tensioning system without the use of tools
  • Transparent oil level indicator window
  • Ergonomically designed non-slip handle for greater comfort, better control, and less strain during use
  • Movable guard: Covers the top of the bar and follows the cut to completion, always protecting the operator from accidents
  • Lock switch, accessible from both sides
  • XPT (eXtreme Protection Technology) for greater dust and water resistance during use in tough conditions
  • Electric brake for maximum performance and additional safety

This review is about a variation of the product

I got it for pruning citrus and olive trees. Very handy and very lightweight with quality construction. Silent.
Wood cutting: Amazing. If you press it too hard it gets stuck, but if you cut slowly it cuts perfectly. Honestly, it's a pleasure to use. The blade is 10cm but it can cut thicker wood (by cutting around the wood). So for wood up to 15-20cm in diameter, don't even think about getting a gasoline one. Noise, weight, start it - stop it, etc. This one is silent (almost mute) and super light.
Pruning: For large branches it's unbeatable. It cuts them like butter. For branches with a diameter less than 3cm it kicks because the branch moves. The result is that it cuts the branch as if it's 'shredded', I don't know how else to describe it. I don't have experience with other such mini chainsaws but I believe it's due to the nature of the tool (rough chain) and not necessarily this specific tool. Anyway, if you get used to it and cut slowly and steadily, it doesn't kick much. Now, for very small branches, it's not suitable because that's not its job.
Efficiency: I pruned 15 trees and a mulberry tree, leaving only the thick branches. It used up 2 bars from a 2Ah battery. I'm very satisfied.
Other: It has automatic chain tensioning and an automatic chain lubrication mechanism. Both are very convenient. Indicatively, for the above branches it used 50ml of oil. Chain speed 8m/s. For your information, the tool is made in China. I got the Z series which also gives you the Makita case (Makpac 3). It was €20 more but it's worth it (if you want the case) because the case alone is €45. It's much bigger than the saw. Consider that I also put a jigsaw inside. It also gives you a chain sharpener and 100ml of oil.
Final comments: If you have a battery from other Makita 18V tools, it might be worth getting this. But if not, maybe you should look for another more economical brand which I believe won't have much difference in performance.
Update 2026: I have cut a lot of branches and the chain cuts like new.
