Description

The book "Acting Against the Nation... 1971-1974" is the testimony of a journalist who worked for a newspaper during the junta years, experienced the social pulse of Thessaloniki, and participated in the anti-dictatorial student movement of the time.

The documentation of the dramatic four-year period centers around the secret reports regarding the anti-dictatorial student activity in Thessaloniki, which were sent abroad to inform the European public opinion. Complementary is the journalistic experience at the newspaper "Thessaloniki" during the period 1971-1973, where he worked as an editor on student matters, along with the testimonies of friends and acquaintances.

This core has been supplemented with research in archival sources and publications. In short, it offers a personal view of the events of this period, where autobiographical narrative blends with historiographical discourse, attempting to weave fragments of personal notes and newspapers with wounds of individual memory that remain open and others that have closed under the scars of collective amnesia.

Beyond narrating the student struggle, culminating in the epic of the "Polytechnic" in Thessaloniki, it also attempts to document the opposing "camp," the supporters and collaborators of the dictatorship in the city, the economic situation, the prevailing atmosphere of bliss, and the indifferent stance of the majority of citizens towards the dictatorial regime.

The book seeks to create a mural of the "Generation of the Polytechnic" in its youth, the anti-dictatorial and those collaborating with the regime, against the backdrop of the cultural environment of Thessaloniki during the bleak years of the junta. The atmosphere and events of the period are reflected in many photographs and documentary documents of the time.
