The Hellenic Association of Film Critics is releasing for the 30th consecutive year the publication "Cinema", the unique record of our cinematic reality in Greek literature, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports.
In the 480 pages of "Cinema 2022", with editor-in-chief and publication editor the film critic and author Dimitris Kolioudis, Vice President of P.E.K.K., included are: Critical analysis of all the films released in Greek theaters during the past year (January 1 to December 31, 2022), with texts by members of P.E.K.K. published in the Greek press and/or on the internet.
A detailed box office report for the year and commentary from Dimitris Kolioudis: In 2022, a total of 309 foreign and 64 Greek films were released. Of these 373 films, 56 were documentaries, 32 were animations, and 49 were re-releases. A total of 5,515,358 tickets were sold compared to 3,101,351 sold in the miserable, pandemic-hit year of 2021 (5,131,636 for foreign films and 383,722 tickets for Greek films).
Thus, compared to 2021, the increase was approximately 77.84%, but the immediate, the real, consequence of the pandemic on ticket sales is seen in comparison with 2019, showing a drop of about 42.29%. This seems very difficult to bridge, as the viewing conditions for any film have already changed...
The annual voting, through which Greek film critics choose the best Greek and foreign film of the year each year, this year highlighted on one hand the film Magnetic Fields by Giorgos Gousis and on the other hand the film Drive My Car by Ryusuke Hamaguchi.
In the publication Cinema 2022, we also find: The introductory commentary on the past year by the President of P.E.K.K. Vassilis Kehagias, a detailed record of new books on cinema and its protagonists by Dimitris Kalantidis, President of the Federation of Film Clubs of Greece, and a tribute to those in cinema who "departed" from us, with a complete In Memoriam by film critic Kostas G. Karderinis.
Finally, reports from all Greek festivals and the most significant cinematic events abroad, as well as a record of awards from film Academies in our country and worldwide (Oscars, Golden Globes, BAFTA, César, Goya, David di Donatello, Iris, European Film Academy Awards, Fangoria awards), along with a mention of the actions, awards, and people honored by P.E.K.K. during the year.
