Aunt Toula, which has been considered one of the hundred best Spanish-language novels of the twentieth century (El Mundo newspaper), is one of the most important works of the great Spanish writer and philosopher.

The text, an excellent psychological portrait, traps the reader with its fast-paced and unexpected plot, lively dialogues, conflicts, and contradictions within the characters' inner worlds, while it does not provide realistic descriptions or clear explanations, thus distancing itself from contemporary novels.

As Unamuno wrote in a letter to his friend Joan Maragall in 1902, it's the story of (...) a young woman who, rejecting suitors, remains unmarried to raise her niece and nephew, children of her dying sister.
