If you are not used to spending time alone, at first you may feel awkward or uncomfortable. Sometimes it proves difficult to be alone with your thoughts. You might feel like you are not achieving anything or you don’t know what to do with yourself. You might feel like there is no obvious benefit.
In order to get used to the feeling of being alone, we need to challenge ourselves, first with the simple ways I described in the previous section, but also with broader, more comprehensive methods.
MAKE USE OF THE TIME YOU ARE ALONE. What new thing would you like to try? Below are three different ways you can spend time alone and use it to better understand yourself. From the options below, choose the one that seems most appealing to you – since part of this process is learning your preferences – or think of your own.
1. Decide to develop a new skill that will require weeks, months, or even longer. Take the singing lessons you always wanted, learn to skateboard, or follow a popular choice during the pandemic period and learn to bake bread.
