Description

The Western Digital Green is a 3.5 HDD hard drive, with a capacity of 1TB and rotational speed of 7200 RPM. This speed is recommended for all uses such as file storage, program and game installation.
It operates with the communication protocol SATA III and is recommended for home use. It is the most modern SATA standard and the motherboard must support it for the disk to operate at its maximum capabilities. It can be connected without any problem to SATA II ports, but it will work at lower speeds.
For installation in a desktop computer, you will need a SATA III data cable and an available SATA port on the motherboard. You will also need an available power supply cable for the SATA device from the power supply.

  • Amazing disk for conventional SATA.
Moderate speeds but very reliable, completely silent and at low temperatures.
Recommended as a secondary disk for backup and file storage.

  • 8 years later, life of the disk 100% on Hard Disk Sentinel, minimal noise covered by the fans. Normal speed for HDD

  • Very good quality/price ratio. 0 noise.

I have never encountered the problem that is sometimes heard about WD Green (that due to the continuous stop/start of the disk, because it is Green and needs to stop more often, the needle is more "dangerous" in causing damage)

I had bought 2 of these to play them in RAID. After 1 year, one of them failed. If you want reliability, prefer the WD RED series.

I liked that the disks are green, so I decided to buy it to save electricity.

However, the electricity I saved was spent after half a year since it broke... I took it to a technician and managed to save some files, but the damage was done... Later, I learned that green disks are not known for their reliability, so I won't approach them again...

I give 2 stars instead of 1 for the low price and relatively good performance, as long as it lasted.

Now, I only trust the Red series from Western Digital

Quiet, reliable with all the technologies and good characteristics that a modern Sata3 hard drive (6Gb/s) should have, NoTouch™ Ramp Load Technology, advanced format, etc.
I have installed Windows 8.1 and I have no complaints. By performing a 3-minute speed test, I copied a file full of songs (37.7 GB) from one partition to another (I have divided it into 650gb / 350gb). It took about 15 minutes. The reading speed reached up to 110Mb and the writing speed was 89mb (of course, it was not stable).

This particular hard drive is quiet and reliable, but relatively slow. Its recommended use is for file storage and not for installing operating systems and programs that need to run quickly.
