We have the joy and blessing to offer the Orthodox congregation the two-volume edition titled "The Old Testament with a Brief Interpretation." This edition is a summary of the monumental collective work of the late professor Panagiotis N. Trembelas and our theologians Nikolaos P. Vasileiadis, Herakleous G. Papadimitriou, and Georgios G. Psaltakis, whose interpretation of the Old Testament has been published by our Brotherhood in twenty volumes.
This twenty-volume edition received an award from the Academy of Athens in 2002. It included the text of the Septuagint, interpretative rendering, and an introduction to each chapter, which contained the interpretative opinions of the God-bearing Fathers and many sacred interpreters, as well as archaeological and historical notes and constructive teachings.
The new two-volume edition includes a brief introduction for each book of the Old Testament, the text of the Septuagint, and the interpretation of the aforementioned edition, which was translated into the common modern Greek language by our brother Mr. Marios Domouchtsis, Philologist-Theologian, with the assistance and collaboration of other members of our Brotherhood. In order to clearly convey the meaning of the interpretation in common Modern Greek, in some verses, the syntactic order of certain sentences or terms was changed. In other cases, the meaning of the interpretation was expressed more clearly based on the interpretative observations of the twenty-volume edition, while in other cases, the interpretation was made shorter.
The purpose of this edition is to provide every believer with the opportunity to acquire the Old Testament in a handy two-volume manual, so that they may regularly study the divine word and delve into it.
This two-volume edition includes the protocanonical books of the Old Testament, as well as the deuterocanonical or anaginoskomena, which are completely omitted in many editions of non-Orthodox. It also includes the book of 4 Maccabees.
