Sound is ok, you can hear ambient sounds, but speech, you can't understand what they're saying after 10 meters. I connected it with POE with the cheapest UTP (not 100% copper) cable, maybe 20 meters long, and it has never disconnected in 2 years now. It records continuously on a Chinese recorder. The mobile app also sends notifications when it "sees" a person or a car (or whatever someone sets).
