This study, whose first edition (2013) was warmly received by the public and critics, is reissued today in two volumes, enriched with new material published for the first time after painstaking and long-term research. It takes us on a journey through the history and presence of the tambouras in the Greek region. 

The first volume deals with the evolution of the instrument from antiquity and Byzantium up to the early decades of the 20th century.

A significant number of Greek and foreign travelers present (16th-19th century) mostly unknown and unpublished references to date, as well as illustrative material, highlighting the tambouras as the main instrument of expression of the Greek people during past centuries. 

The digital disc (CD) includes, in its first edition, two songs from the first sound recordings of the instrument made in Görlitz, Prussia in 1917, by the Greek prisoner bouzouki players Kostas Kalamara and Antonis Lingos, the complete unpublished work of Samos native Manolis Karapiperis, Thanasis Manetas, Konstantinos Kokotis, and other pioneering musicians covering all musical aspects of the historical roots and presence of the instrument.
