The book The Global Cold War is internationally the key reference work on the involvement of the global South in the major international process of the post-war era, the competition between the capitalist West and the communist East. The Cold War shaped the world we live in today: politics, economy, military affairs. However, it was not limited to the two opposing coalitions. It expanded across the entire planet. Thus, this book shows how the globalization of the Cold War and the transfer of its tensions and dilemmas to what was then called the Third World laid the foundations for significant conflicts in our own era. It discusses how the policies of the two superpowers, the USA and the Soviet Union, in the Third World caused discontent, suspicion, and resistance within it, thereby significantly complicating the otherwise "bipolar" world. Examining issues across a vast geographical area—from China, Indonesia, Iran, Ethiopia to Angola, Cuba, Nicaragua—it offers a truly global perspective on the Cold War. Finally, by studying the development of the interventionist ideologies and policies of the two superpowers, as well as the revolutionary movements that opposed these interventions, the book connects the past with the present in ways that reveal the dynamics of both that (recent) past and our own times.
