During World War II, aerial violence struck cities in Europe and the Pacific front with unprecedented intensity. The airplane transformed the rear lines into a war zone, elevating anything that materially or morally contributed to the military effort to a target.

In the Greek case, the book closely follows the long journey of preparation and aerial testing for cities with a crucial role in the Greco-Italian and the brief Greco-German confrontations. At its core is the issue of passive air defense (shelters, adherence to alarms and blackouts, urban thinning) which became the highest priority for the small Balkan country.

A pivotal point is the exploration of urban psychology, which turned into a critical target of the air war, while the research process could not exclude the upheavals in daily life, the food challenge, the mobilization-assistance of urban populations, and the functioning of the propaganda machinery in the name of armed confrontation.

In this way, the reader gains a comprehensive picture of all aspects related to the period of waiting, as well as the painful experience that the Greek cities endured from the arrival of enemy bombers during the period of 1940-1941.
