Description

In the third part of the series “Basileios Basileus,” Bardas Phokas returns from Chios where he is in exile. Through the narration of the Cappadocian general, the events of the bloody civil war with Bardas Skleros in Asia Minor reach their climax.

The future of Emperor Basil on the throne is determined by the clash of two of the most capable generals in Byzantine history. At the same time, Basil Porphyrogenitus faces a second front within the palace itself. After the loss of Nikephoros Ouranos and the disappearance of Ariadne, who can support him in his effort to limit the influence of the Senate President, Lekapenos? A conspiracy, a death, and a revelation will drastically change the balance of power in the Bosporus. With all eyes turned to the East, the neglected West has been left at the mercy of invaders. Thessaloniki and Larissa are directly threatened by a new ambitious ruler. Ironically, from the collapsing West, a new hope will emerge for Basil, helping him escape the grip of the generals and Lekapenos.

“In the late 10th century, palatial intrigues and assassinations, civil wars, and impressive conquests constitute the most exciting period of the Byzantine era. Amidst all this stands the solitary and enigmatic figure of Basil II. The magnificent comic by Chrysa Avgi and Spyros uniquely brings to life a powerful story of survival and political dominance of a man born to be an emperor and who had to fight harder than anyone else to achieve it. The man destined to bring the medieval empire of Constantinople to its peak.” Dr. Ioannis Stouraitis, Lecturer of Byzantine History, University of Edinburgh

This review is about the add to your collection: Vol. 2: 2: The Dominion of the Bastard

Unique opportunity for the reader to be transported and "experience" the Empire of the 10th century. So many dimensions of our ancestors' lives unfold, so many historical events that then determined the fate of the world and now we have not even heard of them, that it makes you wonder how little we know about our history and all that shapes our current character as a nation.
The only thing I would like is battles and naval battles of such great dimensions as described, from a panoramic, if possible double-page, depiction of the battlefield in all its glory. The armies and fleets that took part would awe the reader. What power we had and how we wasted it by fighting among ourselves!

The continuation of the first Kingdom King. The illustration is incredible and the story is now beginning to unfold. There is nothing like it.

The story is very concise and gives the feeling that it was written hastily. It's a shame because Theofano was a masterpiece.

Excellent illustration. Text faithful to the historical context and very interesting. A very good book in every aspect. After Theophano, the good work continues. Only thing is, I would have liked it to be a little longer in duration. I hope the next books in the history of the great King B will be released soon.
