The larger the number of the sandpaper, the higher the density of the grains per square millimeter. In smaller numbers (e.g., 24, 36, 40…), we have fewer grains but larger diameter, ideal for quickly smoothing rough surfaces, while in larger numbers (e.g., 180, 220, 320…) we have more grains with smaller diameter, suitable for intense sanding and a smooth finish. When sanding with a sander, the action is clearly greater than when done by hand.
