The novel Cesar Cascabel was published in 1890 and describes the journey of the Cascabel family, a traveling troupe of French jugglers, from California to France. The Cascabels, after twenty years of wandering, decide to return to their homeland. Thus, the parents, César and Cornelia, along with their three children and their friends, board their wagon-camper for an unprecedented journey. Unfortunately, they fall victim to robbery, which changes the course of their journey. Without money, the only solution is to travel by road from Alaska to Siberia and then continue to France from Russia. The adventures they face are many, but César Cascabel is always there to come up with something clever.
