    It is indeed plastic, but the "dividers" of the boxes are like fabric or leather, which greatly reduces the durability of what one can put inside. Also, if you are thinking of "breaking" it, then the connecting pieces are not enough. It either comes in a dozen or 4+4 for example. Finally, and very annoying and misleading for me, the plastic "windows" are not as transparent as in the photo. For a showcase type, which is what I wanted, to see what is inside, it doesn't work. I wouldn't have bought it if I had known all this.
