The varnish is amazing. I occasionally and amateurishly varnish musical instruments, bouzoukis, guitars, etc. After many trials, I had settled—with very good results—on the 2300, a varnish described as acrylic polyurethane from the same company. It hasn't been in the catalog for a while, but they used to make it for me by special order. So I decided to try the S-86. It is completely transparent, just like the 2300, and COLORLESS, like water. It forgives mistakes, withstands trials, does not crater, does not easily orange peel, does not run. Mixture 2:1 on a precision scale and 10% slow thinner. I sprayed it with a bulle BL-20 0.5 airbrush, fan fully open, 3 1/4 turns open on the paint, pressure 1.9 (afterwards I saw that the air adjustment on the gun was open at 1 turn from the factory and I forgot to open it, so the information about 1.9 is doubtful). First coat, in 20' the second, in another 10' the third. Then I pushed it further because the woods I was varnishing—rosewood and wenge—had grooves that wouldn't close easily and I wanted to finish without repetitions. This is a tactic that is not recommended and for some varnishes can be disastrous. So I applied another 2 heavy coats from close range. The result was amazing. The varnish not only withstood all of the above, it leveled perfectly, gave a perfect surface, flat and mirror gloss. It highlighted—even though it is colorless—the grains and shades of the wood exemplarily. Conclusion: Flawless in every way, easy to work with, gives excellent results.
