I am writing to help future buyers. I replaced a 500W halogen bulb that was dimmable. In large electrical chains in Athens, I couldn't find so many lumens and dimmable (the halogen was about 9000 lumens and dimmable, this particular Osram is 2500 lumens and dimmable). They also told me that there was no way it would work with the dimmer from 1999 (the fixture is from 1999 or earlier). I also had doubts if it would fit, as the halogen bulb had a diameter of 9mm, while the Osram LED bulb has a diameter of 29mm.

In the end, triumph! I installed it with plastic gloves, and I held it with a cloth used for cleaning eyeglasses. The "axis" of the Osram LED bulb is off-center, so it fits into the ceramic socket from 1999 and into the fixture's "holder". Obviously, it sticks out upwards. It makes so little noise that to hear it I have to put my ear next to the bulb and I hear as if there is an insect inside it. From 2 meters away, nothing can be heard. The dimmer works it normally, throughout its range. Because it has fewer lumens, the same light that the halogen produced at 20-50% of the dimmer, the LED now produces at 80-100% of the dimmer. In short, from now on the dimmer will work at 60-100%. Gemini says "Your dimmer is a 'beast': Many dimmers from that era had very high-quality coils and components that do not cause electromagnetic noise (buzzing) even when operating at 5% of their rated power." We're talking about 17.5W instead of 500W, 28 times less consumption. The warm 2700K is very close (if not identical) to the halogen.

It has a nominal lifetime of 15 years. See you then.

I had exactly 2 identical bulbs in a fixture in the living room and they lasted 3-4 years with quite a bit of use. The new ones never worked properly as there was flickering at all levels of adjustment. The noise mentioned in a previous comment is indeed true but it is not particularly annoying.

I replaced a halogen bulb that produced a very nice light but was 140w. Overall, it does its job but:
    1. It makes an annoying noise that changes slightly depending on the position of the dimmer (but it never stops)
    2. With the dimmer at 0% - 20%, the bulb doesn't light up at all.
    3. Although it is warm light, it doesn't have the sweetness of the halogen bulb.

I can compromise with 2 and 3, but probably because of 1, it will go back in its box...
