Description

Description

In his work "De architectura" (circa 40 BC), Vitruvius discusses aspects of Roman architecture, engineering, and city planning in ten encyclopedic chapters. Vitruvius also includes a section on anthropometric proportions. Since it is the only ancient work on architecture that has survived, "De architectura" is a valuable source of information for scholars. The rediscovery of Vitruvius during the Renaissance significantly bolstered the revival of classicism during that period and afterwards. Many architectural volumes were partly based or inspired by Vitruvius, starting with Leon Battista Alberti's work "De re aedificatoria" (1485).
