Description

The story of the great journalistic group through the personal moments of its "own" people. Sixty-one individuals give a human face to the publishing creation of the Lambrakis family as well as their own version of its power and influence.

Prominent journalists, such as Giannis Marinos, Lefteris Papadopoulos, Richard Someritis, Giannis Kartalis, Giannis Pretenderis, Petros Efyminiou, Liana Kanelli, Pantelis Kapsis, Christos Memis, Stelios Koulouglou, Pavlos Tsimas, Aglaia Kremezi, and many others, talk about their time in the offices of the newspapers and magazines of DOL.

Recognized caricaturists and cartoonists, such as Kostas Mitropoulos and Spyros Ornerakis, circulation managers, editors, and art directors describe their lives alongside mythical figures of the media, unraveling the story of the Greek press from paper to the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

University professors, including Ilias Nikolakopoulos, comment on pivotal, controversial moments in the history of the newspapers To Vima and Ta Nea, with the highlight being the Julians. Personalities such as Evangelos Venizelos and Theodoros Rousopoulos, Georgios Babiniotis, and Nasos Vaghenas provide their own testimonies.

Memories of the last days of DOL, as experienced alongside Stauros Psycharis, are recalled by his wife, journalist Christina Psycharis. Unpublished photographs, unknown handwritten notes, and sketches accompany the publication.

In the pages of the book, a major protagonist is Christos Lambrakis, about whom close associates speak for the first time, from his sister Lena Savvidi to his secretary Irini Bitha and his driver Giannis Talantis. They reveal his temperament, habits, and his multifaceted –sometimes hidden– actions.

They outline his personal journey, beginning in 1957 when he took over the Group after the sudden death of his father, up to his own death in 2009, marking the beginning of the end for DOL, which collapsed just eight years later. They ultimately create an informal political biography of the last traditional publisher. And a mural of the history of the place.
