"Matter and Memory" (1896) is one of the four main works of Bergson and is published for the first time in Greek translation.
In this work, the great French philosopher develops a wholly original approach to the central and always relevant philosophical question of the relationship between matter and spirit. The rephrasing of the issue is based on both an original and thorough analysis of perception and memory, which leads to a radical redefinition of their relationship.
In his analysis, Bergson explicitly takes into account the scientific research findings of his time, which he closely followed and studied in depth. The relationship between bodily and spiritual functions with the voluntary action of the biological and social being "human" proves to be fundamental to the overall approach.
"Matter and Memory" provides the Greek reader with the opportunity to study a model of fruitful dialogue between philosophy and positive science, as well as overcoming traditional confrontations in philosophy such as that between realism and idealism.
The introduction of the Greek edition provides the reader with informative insights regarding the position of the work within the framework of Bergson's overall philosophy, as well as about the contradictory way it has been addressed by criticism. The appendix attempts a comprehensive interpretative approach to its content.
