Since my student years (1946-1950), I have had a great interest in Pontus and anything related to it (various hearsay, sporadic information in newspapers and magazines or books, school and extracurricular news, etc.), precisely because I used to listen to my father, my teacher at our village's elementary school (Monastiraki of Almopia), recounting incidents from his life in the distant Pontus, especially about his homeland, Tsağrak of Keratsoun of Pontus.

Once I heard him narrate the actions of his uncle, Fotios Kalpidis, who later became the Metropolitan of Korçë and Preveza and was murdered in 1906, I decided to investigate his life and tragic death and record everything. I managed to complete this research with the publication of my book ‘Korçë and Preveza Fotios Kalpidis (1862-1906), the Pontian national martyr hierarch - the first victim of the Macedonian struggle,’ published by the Kyriakidis Brothers in Thessaloniki in 2004, spanning 527 pages, a book that was honored by the Academy of Athens (29-12-2005).

My research to find details of his life mainly focused on the archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while I also contacted the Library of Parliament, researching various newspapers. I found that there was not even a single issue of a Pontic newspaper in the shelves of the Parliament Library, which led me to search for newspapers from Constantinople.

We began our research with the oldest newspapers, noting in detail the pages we studied. The indexing I carried out and publish here includes a total of 848 newspaper pages. What remains to complete this work is to index all the other newspapers with thousands of pages, which is very desirable but extremely difficult.
