Any book – I claim this without any intention of exaggeration – is a journey. Better yet, the possibility of a journey. It cannot be otherwise. So if every book is a journey, a book about journeys, a book that records the adventures of a journey, especially to magical places, sealed by both myth and history, is certainly a book-journey to the nth degree. The author of this book, Thomais Papathanasiou-Photopoulou, shares with us in a simple yet not simplistic way not only her personal experiences or the diligent readings she has done precisely to face the challenge of this particular journey, but mainly her personal, sensitized experience and relationship with these specific places, cities, monuments, people, their past and present. Nor does she simply record another tourist wander, but the true adventure, the initiatory process of a journey that can, all things considered, change the way one sees both oneself and the world. Because that is what it is about. Everything else is found in the texts and photographs of the study at hand. The most important things, however, are found behind the words and behind the images.
