The author of this work, Rear Admiral of the Coast Guard Panagiotis Kosmatos, served in Greek shipping for almost 50 years. The first 30 years were in the public sector, within the Coast Guard, during which he climbed all the ranks of the military hierarchy, and the remaining years were in the private sector (HELMEPA and the Greek Shipping Cooperation Committee in London).
During this time, he developed a wide range of activities and gained rich experience, which he occasionally shared through various publications in the press. Later, he also wrote a few short stories based on incidents from his military service.
At the end of his professional career, he published various articles and letters of a more general social interest in the daily and maritime press.
For all these reasons, he decided to present all of this in a single text so that future generations, particularly in the field of shipping, could know it and perhaps benefit from these experiences and knowledge.
These activities of Admiral Mr. Pan. Kosmatos include many unknown incidents to many, both in the public and private sectors, which are believed to have some historical interest.
For all these reasons, this work is considered a reading of particular interest that also serves as a contribution to the history of our shipping.
