Guitar Basics is an essential method for beginner guitarists. The method starts from the absolute beginner level and progresses to the Basic/Preparatory level. It consists of sixteen stages and includes original pieces and traditional melodies in a variety of styles, including classical, folk, and world music, as well as well-known themes from movies and television such as James Bond, Batman, and The Flintstones.

There is a detailed introduction to standard notation, with sections for chords and TAB, while ensemble pieces are ideal for group teaching, including "Wider Opportunities". Accompaniment parts and teacher notes are provided in the teaching book Guitar Basics Teacher's Book, and fun recordings for accompaniment are available for online download.

The accompanying book, Guitar Basics Repertoire, offers over 40 fun solo and ensemble pieces for individual and group learning. It is designed to reinforce the material taught in Guitar Basics Tutor and to introduce new topics, such as improvisation, fretboard movements, music in two parts, arpeggios, and selected chords.
