Bartók taught piano at the Music Academy of Budapest from 1907 to 1934. In his early years as a professor, the music publishers of Budapest, Rozsnyai and Rozsavolgyi, entrusted him with the preparation of the so-called educational editions (including fingerings, comments, and suggestions for the performer) of several classics of the piano repertoire, totaling over two thousand pages of music. Following Bach and Beethoven, Mozart was the third classical title for which Bartók took on the editorial processing, essential for music education and the sheet music market in Hungary. Károly Rozsnyai assigned him the task. Bartók worked on the revisions of the sonatas between 1910 and 1912.
