The TO-247 package is preferred in commercial and industrial applications where higher power levels do not allow the use of TO-220 packages.

The TO-247 is similar but superior to the older TO-218, as it features an electrically insulated mounting hole. Additionally, it provides greater creepage distances between the terminals to meet the requirements of most safety standards.
