The Athenian philosopher and Christian Athenagoras lived in the 2nd century AD and is considered one of the most important apologists of his time.
His work, "On the Defense of Christians," which is translated and commented upon in this edition, is addressed to the philosopher emperor Marcus Aurelius and his son Commodus.
Athenagoras attempts to refute and overturn the three main accusations against Christians: atheism, Thysian banquets (cannibalism), and Oedipal unions (incest).
He presents his arguments with gentleness, sobriety, and dignity, while, being a Platonic philosopher, his entire work is permeated by Platonism.
A Platonism that he uses as a starting point in order to build and present his theological arguments regarding monotheism.
