Description & Specifications

The well-known and shocking narrative of three sisters who were separated, tortured, and exploited by a community that deprived them of their childhood. It reveals three lives, separate but interconnected, that have experienced chilling atrocity, unwavering faith, and unforgettable courage. From the age of three, Julianna, Celeste, and Christina were cut off from their parents and were victims of physical and sexual abuse by their 'guards' in a closed religious cult known as the Children of God. The girls were forced to watch and imitate orgies, received love letters and offers from men who could have been their grandfathers, and were forced into abusive relationships. They were deprived of access to formal education and medical care, forced to beg on the streets, and suffered merciless beatings for 'punishments' as indefinite as reading an encyclopedia. Eventually, unable to live with the guilt of what happened to her children, their mother escaped with Christina and their younger siblings, severing Celeste in an attempt to save the remaining children. While Christina wanted to save her sister, she embarked on a quest to find Celeste, but it took many years for Celeste to find the courage to escape, seeking freedom and a different future for the child she was carrying. The suicide of one of their sisters led Julianna to leave the group a few years later. Now, the three sisters have come together to fully reveal and in gruesome detail their existence within the sect of the Children of God. Their stories reveal a community spread across the globe and the legacy of anorexia, depression, drug addiction, suicide, and even murder. Their lives have been torn and mended with a fatal force that finally allowed them to break free from the shadows of the past. Pages: 432, Dimensions: 12.9x12.9cm
