Gerald Durrell was a world-renowned naturalist and popular author who wrote a total of thirty-seven incredibly readable works, including the bestseller "My Family and Other Animals." His other works include "Birds, Beasts, and Relatives," "The Bafut Beagles," and "A Zoo in My Luggage."
Above all, he paved the way for the popular presentation of the natural world on television and presented twelve series, many of which were about his own explorations. Sir David Attenborough has stated: "He was responsible for changing the world's views on zoology and its agenda. He showed that small animals can be just as interesting as apes and elephants... He was a pioneer with wonderful humor."
His brother was the famous author Lawrence Durrell.
