"Against the Day" covers the period between the 1893 Chicago World's Fair and the years following World War I. It refers to various locations, such as the labor unrest in Colorado, New York City in the early 20th century, London, Venice, Siberia, and Mexico during the revolution, as well as Hollywood in the silent era. This era is characterized by uncontrollable corporate greed, spurious religiosity, incompetence, and malicious intent at high levels. It may not be the world, but with some minor adjustments, it represents what the world could be.
