Description

The Penguin Readers series is an educational reading system for students of English as a foreign language. It includes adapted texts, new illustrations, and language exercises, with printed material that provides instructions for accessing online supporting material.

The titles include popular classic works, exciting modern literature, and challenging non-fiction, introducing students to literature with appealing and engaging content. The eight levels of the series follow the Common European Framework of Reference for Language Learning (CEFR).

The exercises at the end of each reader help students practice grammar, vocabulary, and essential exam skills. Questions before, during, and after reading check text comprehension and develop vocabulary.

Through the printed edition, readers can access online resources, including a digital book, audio edition, lesson plans, and answer guides.

Roald Dahl flew planes during World War II (1939-1945) when Germany, Italy, and Japan fought against Britain and other countries. Going Solo refers to his service in the RAF (Royal Air Force), writing that "I didn't need to leave anything out here because every moment was, for me, completely interesting."
