It protects from the sun in the summer and from frost in the winter. It has sewn loops through which you can pass a rope to tie the cover onto the collector.
In case you are away from home for a long period and therefore not using the solar water heater, you should cover the collectors of your system. If the absence is long and the collector surface is not covered (especially during the summer months), then at best, upon your return, you will need to vent the closed circuit and add thermal fluid.
This happens because the accumulated water in the boiler during the summer months raises the temperature to 80ºC (very close to the boiling point). If you have not neglected the regular maintenance of your solar system, the safety valve (of the boiler) will be activated, and a quantity of water will be released to prevent the boiler from "bursting".
If the safety valve is not activated (due to poor or lack of maintenance), the "bursting" of the boiler is inevitable.
In winter, it is also deemed necessary to use a cover in case of low temperatures, hail, and snowfall, especially if your solar system is an open circuit.
