The Erler Zimmer knee model is made from a special plastic material with the texture of real bone, while also including the patellar tendon, lateral ligaments, cruciates, and menisci, all made from a special elastic synthetic material.

This allows for demonstration of all individual movements of the knee as well as the representation of major injuries such as meniscus tear, lateral and cruciate ligament tears, "unhappy triad", patellar ligament injury, etc.

Research has shown that detailed explanation and live demonstration of the injury mechanism or reproduction of symptoms play a very important role in the patient’s recovery.
