Description & Specifications

The "Encyclopedia of Pontic Hellenism" is a multi-volume work that has the general characteristics of a typical encyclopedia; the arrangement of topics in alphabetical order rather than by categories, mainly informative content of the entries, timeless and comprehensive presentation of each topic, an effort to cover, through the richness of the entries, all areas of knowledge as much as possible, etc.

However, the work has a distinct feature that sets it apart from other general encyclopedias; its distinctiveness lies in the fact that the frameworks within which the contents are included are defined by a general axis that can be described as "Greek Pontus." Therefore, it is a specialized encyclopedia in terms of its content and is unique in its kind. Our aim is for the work to constitute a "panorama" of Pontic Hellenism, in the broadest possible sense, and a source of knowledge related to Pontus.

The recognition of the Genocide of the Pontic Hellenism by the Hellenic Parliament in 1994, as well as all the newer events that occurred during the period between the first edition of the work, led us to decide to republish it and enrich its content with about 2,000 new entries and 3,000 photographs.

The work includes references to History, folklore, geography, music, flora, literature-language, arts, religion, as well as other topics (biographies of Pontians who have excelled in various fields).
