The pedagogy of Inclusion aims for equal educational opportunities for all children based on the principles of equality and democracy. Since the idea was articulated in Salamanca in the early 1990s, ways have been sought to achieve this in practice.
The philosophy of Environmental Education closely aligns with the philosophy of inclusion. Thus, it could be utilized as a means for the inclusion of students with special educational needs (SEN) and serve as an island in the contemporary educational system towards this direction.
This book seeks to address the prevailing sense among many General Education teachers that Special Education is perhaps a different world. Through a review of contemporary Greek and international literature, as well as through the study of existing legislation, one can easily observe that the idea of inclusion for students with special educational needs (SEN) dominates. An idea that, at least until today, appears to be a "utopia" within the existing educational reality.
Concerns and answers are developed in the pages of this book that may lead to a desired awareness and change of attitude towards the prospect of including students with SEN.
