The Wen-Zhu, also known by the honorary title Understanding the Mysteries, is one of the most important works of Taoism, written two thousand years ago.
It addresses fundamental human problems, human nature and its potential, the relationship of humanity with itself and the world. It deals with mental and physical health, social conventions and human behavior, organization and law, politics and culture, and the situations of war and peace.
According to the Taoist worldview, the mind and body are a unity, both in the individual and in society as a whole. Mental and physical health, therefore, must mutually support each other, based on a balanced and sensitive response to needs: The path of evolved individuals is to cultivate the body through tranquility and nourish life through moderation… to control the body and nurture the essence, to sleep and rest in moderation, to eat and drink properly, to harmonize emotions, to simplify activities. Those who turn their attention inward to the self achieve this and are impervious to negative energies.
