Description

What is it that is unbearable – aside from everything? How does the host give birth to the stranger? Are our gardens allowed to look outward? Why are the girls in such a hurry?

These are just some of the questions posed by the poetry collection by Stavroula Papadaki titled "And what will the world say?" intertwining the thread of words and attempting through them to provide a solution to the following problem: Why, as we grow up, do we learn to give weight to "what will people say," distancing ourselves from our own microcosms, betraying whatever exists or could exist within them?

Who is this world that keeps talking, what does it truly say, and when will we stop listening to it more than our own voice? The poems in the collection serve as an exercise for the individual, who seeks to claim their freedom by feeling their way in and out, while also being a verbal resonator of all the concerns of female existence struggling to realize itself beyond given roles and norms.

Aiming to capture that ideal condition in which we allow ourselves to live in our world while maintaining a view of the world of others and simultaneously recording the journey of personal and gender emancipation.

"There are some days quieter than others when the bells do not ring, and our veins for life on those days I pay attention, I count again and again what I have at my fingertips, I step on the breath I hold, and in my fear, I say if it comes like this it will be my death’s stroll, a thick stillness for birds to lie down, and I now inattentive."
