Earthborne Rangers is a customizable, cooperative card game set in the wilds of the distant future. Players take on the role of Rangers, protectors of the mountain valley they call home: an expansive wilderness transformed by monumental scientific and technological achievements designed to save Earth from catastrophe many years ago.
The story of Earthborne Rangers is presented as a branching narrative campaign consisting of a main story and numerous side stories. Players can choose to follow the critical path or explore to discover the many interesting characters of the valley, mysterious ruins, and entities that are both familiar and strange.
Initially, players create a deck that reflects their interests, personal history, and personality as a Ranger. As they explore the open world and their story takes shape, they can enhance their deck with upgraded equipment, refined skills, and memories from their journey.
Each gameplay session represents a day in the valley, with players starting from the same location on the map where they ended the previous night. The goal is either to complete one of the available missions or to explore the open world. The session ends when players need to rest (due to exhaustion or injury) or choose to rest for the night.
Each gameplay session is played in turns, each consisting of rounds. During their turn, players perform one action: either play a card from their hand or choose an action from a card on the table. Each action allows thematic and narrative interaction with the world, bringing it to life around the players. Predators lurk for their prey, rain falls from the sky, stones roll down the mountain blocking their path, and much more.
