Didymoteicho is a small border provincial town in Greece, rich in historical, monumental, cultural elements, and natural beauty. Many important personalities are associated with the fortress town of Thrace, as they left indelible marks throughout the centuries. Emperors, empresses, generals, politicians, patriarchs, writers, benefactors, visual artists, musicians, archaeologists, and people of theater and generally of spirit originate from Didymoteicho or lived and worked there.

Each of these individuals "carved" in their own way, adding historical value to the two age-old rocks, where the two historically recorded founders of the town, the emperors Trajan (named Plovdiv) and Justinian, built upon the foundations of the ancient Thracians a city that the great Byzantine scholar Georg Ostrogorsky, along with other historians, characterized as imperial.

A milestone in the evolution and final naming of the town was the intervention of Justinian, who erected the Twin Walls on the two opposite hills, which distinctly characterized the city, resulting in the name Plovdiv being forgotten, and from the ninth century onwards, the name Didymoteicho prevailed.

Part of this rich heritage of Didymoteicho and its Greek Orthodox culture are the thirteen Saints who are directly or indirectly related to the town and its region. Among the thirteen Saints of Didymoteicho are a patriarch, two bishops, two priests, an emperor, a queen, five monks, and a layperson.
